Key Storylines

Familiar Foe

Wednesday’s matchup against D.C. United will be the third time Nashville SC and D.C. United have faced off in 2025. The two Eastern Conference teams drew 0-0 in the first meeting, while the Boys in Gold took a 1-0 lead over D.C. United at Audi Field less than two weeks ago.

“Every time we’ve had an opportunity to play them, we’ve learned a little bit more about ourselves and how to do it. And so we just look forward to taking those little tweaks and opportunities to improve ourselves and put it back on display [Wednesday] night,” said head coach BJ Callaghan.

Road to the Quarterfinal

Like all MLS teams, Nashville SC joined the tournament in the third round. The Boys in Gold defeated the Chattanooga Red Wolves 1-0 in their first Open Cup matchup of the year, courtesy of a Josh Bauer goal.

The Boys then went down to Orlando City to take on the Lions in the Round of 16. That match was a roller coaster, finishing 3-2 to the Boys in Gold. An own goal from Rodrigo Schlegel and goals from Ahmed Qasem and Wyatt Meyer pushed Nashville into the quarterfinals.

Flying High

Nashville SC is on an incredible run of form in MLS play. After defeating the Philadelphia Union — who entered the weekend in first place in the East — in dramatic fashion on Saturday, the Boys in Gold find themselves in second place in both the Eastern Conference and the Supporters Shield Standing. Nashville is only one point behind first-place FC Cincinnati and was named first in MLS Power Rankings Tuesday morning.
