Key Storylines
Undefeated Streak – The Boys in Gold extended their undefeated streak to eight matches across all competitions and sit in third place in the Eastern Conference with 28 points. Over this span, Nashville’s attack has exploded, scoring 18 goals.
Super Sam Strikes – With his brace against Toronto on Saturday, Sam Surridge now has four goals in his last two matches and leads the Boys in Gold with eight goals in MLS play. The Englishman is also in a four-way tie for third-most goals in MLS behind Tai Baribo (13) and Cristian Arango (nine).
Walker is Back – After he suffered an injury against Charlotte FC on April 5, the Boys in Gold played seven league matches without captain Walker Zimmerman. He finally made his return to match action against Toronto FC as a second half sub in the 73rd minute.
Scouting the Crew – Under head coach Wilfried Nancy, the Columbus Crew have made a name for themselves as a possession-based team that plays exciting soccer. The Crew lifted MLS Cup in 2023, but they were knocked out in the first round of the 2024 MLS Cup playoffs as a second seed.
Entering Wednesday night, the Crew is in a three-way tie with Orlando City SC and Nashville SC on 27 points, making Wednesday’s matchup a crucial one for the Boys in Gold. Columbus leads the league in completed passes (9,215) and completed pass percentage (88.6%). The Crew are also near the bottom of the league in shots against with 60, while the Boys in Gold are at 61.
