Nashville SC will travel to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to take on Atlanta United for the fourth time in the club’s Major League Soccer history on Saturday.

The Boys in Gold currently sit one place above the Five Stripes in the Eastern Conference standings. With a pivotal match against a southern rival upcoming, here are Nashville’s best moments against Atlanta United from its inaugural MLS season:

Record-breaking attendance - In its first game of MLS action, Nashville SC faced off against Atlanta United in front of 59,069 fans in Nissan Stadium, which set a record for the largest crowd for a soccer match in Tennessee. It was the first of three meetings in 2020 between the Five Stripes and the Boys in Gold.

Zimmerman makes history - With the Boys in Gold trailing 1-0 in the 28’ minute in the 2020 season opener, Walker Zimmerman made history by scoring the first goal in Nashville’s MLS history. Hany Mukhtar sent in a free kick that found Zimmerman who shot the ball past Atlanta goalkeeper Brad Guzan and sent Nissan Stadium into uproar.

Mukhtar’s first goal in gold - In the final meeting between the two teams of 2020, Mukhtar scored his first goal for Nashville on the way to defeating Atlanta 4-2. Dax McCarty won the ball in Atlanta’s half before Dominique Badji headed the ball to Mukhtar who slipped the ball past Guzan into the back of the net. It was McCarty’s second of three assists in the game, where he also scored Nashville’s third goal of the match.
