Halftime Reset: Nashville SC down 1-0 to Portland Timbers in first MLS road match

PORTLAND - Nashville SC goes into halftime down 1-0 against the Portland Timbers at Providence Park thanks to a world-class strike from Diego Valeri in the 12’ minute.


In the opening minutes of the match, Nashville dictated the pace and pressed high up the pitch, creating opportunities and maintaining possession. Hany Mukhtar had the first real chance of the match on a dangerous free kick opportunity that sailed narrowly over the bar in the 6’ minute.


Valeri put the Timbers on the board in the 12’ minute after Portland got their legs under them and began to dictate the flow of the match. Nashville responded in kind with some chances of their own, including an Accam one-time chance that sailed wide in the 20’ minute. Nashville goalkeeper Joe Willis was called upon to make a save on a first-touch shot by Felipe Mora in the 24’ minute.


Nashville controlled the pace in the final minutes of the half. In the 40’ minute, Randall Leal cut inside from his left flank and took a shot on target that was grasped by Portland keeper Steve Clark.
