NASHVILLE (Jan. 15, 2020) – Nashville Soccer Club announced today it has signed 23-year old midfielder Tah Brian Anunga to a Major League Soccer contract from the Charleston Battery in the USL Championship. The Cameroonian youth international will join Nashville SC on Jan. 18 as the team meets for the first time in Nashville ahead of preseason.
“Brian has demonstrated his ability to impact games at the USL level, and at a relatively young age,” said Nashville SC GM Mike Jacobs. “His tenacity and versatility on both sides of the ball fits our profile of what we look for in deep-lying central midfielders.”
A playmaker with the ability to support his team defensively as well as in transition into the attack, Anunga has become a staple of the Battery’s midfield since joining on Mar. 16, 2017. His recovery average, 10 per match, has ranked him among the best central midfielders in the USL Championship during his tenure and earned him the club’s Most Valuable Player award in 2018.
Anunga began his professional career with the Wilmington Hammerheads in 2015 and has since registered 97 career appearances in all club competitions, 84 as a starter. After Wilmington, he went onto joining the Carolina Dynamo in the USL League Two, then known as the Premier Development League, in 2016 before signing for the Battery.
Internationally, Anunga has played for Cameroon Men’s National Team at the U17, U20, and U23 levels, and served as the U20 captain.
