LATE PITTSBURGH GOALS ERASE STELLAR NASHVILLE ROAD EFFORT

PITTSBURGH – After dominating the match for 87 minutes, a couple of late goals gave Nashville Soccer Club a 2-2 draw against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA.

Ken Tribbett and Bradley Bourgeois had two brilliant goals in the breakdown off of set pieces for Nashville, but a late header from Christian Volesky and an own goal set up by former Nashville defender Ryan James allowed Pittsburgh to escape with a point.

Here are three takeaways from the match.

Three Takeaways
Set Piece Swagger

Last season, Nashville SC earned its lone goal on the road at Pittsburgh on the second phase off of a set piece when Brandon Allen tapped home a loose ball in the box. This match was no different, as Ken Tribbett knocked home a goal on the second phase of a corner kick. The half-volley from the big centerback was vital in Nashville’s winning effort on the road, as it opened the scoring and put Nashville SC on the front foot going into halftime.

Bourgeois’ Big Night

After making his first appearance of the season last weekend against Charleston Battery, Bradley Bourgeois stepped up against Pittsburgh and proved why he belongs in the lineup amongst an elite group of defenders. Bourgeois’ header with the keeper draped all over him at the front of the net helped give Nashville some breathing room in the second half, and his header back towards the top of the box allowed Tribbett to score the opening goal and put Nashville in the driver’s seat in the first half.

Late Breakdown

Prior to Pittsburgh’s pair of goals in the final minutes of the match to earn the draw came after Nashville completely dominated the run of play. In fact, Riverhounds SC had exactly zero shots through the first 60 minutes of the match. It took a solid ball into the box that came to the head of Christian Volesky in the 88’ minute and an own goal off the chest of Kosuke Kimura to give Pittsburgh a share of the points.
