Every week, Nashville’s Next recaps the weekend that was for the Nashville SC organization from the first team to Huntsville City FC, to the Nashville SC academy.
Nashville SC: The Boys in Gold played to a 0-0 draw against D.C. United at GEODIS Park on Saturday. Head coach BJ Callaghan deployed a rotated starting XI that included Homegrown center back Chris Applewhite, making the academy product the first to start a MLS in match in club history.
Despite the deadlock, there were a handful of other milestones on Saturday.
The Boys in Gold are in Lamar Hunt US Open Cup action on Wednesday, taking on Orlando City SC in the Round of 16 at Inter & Co Stadium.
Academy: Following a busy MLS NEXT Flex tournament, only the NSCU14s played this past weekend, picking up a 7-0 win over Nashville United Soccer Academy.
The NSC18s and NSCU16s are in action Thursday at Currey Ingram Academy against Charlotte FC. NSCU18s kick off at 10:00 a.m. CT, while the NSCU16s kick off at 12:00 p.m. CT.
Huntsville City FC: Huntsville City FC came up short in a 2-1 battle against Chattanooga FC on Saturday night. After a scoreless first half, both sides found the net in a fast-paced second frame, but it was the away team who ultimately secured all three points.
Huntsville takes on Toronto FC II on the road on Friday before returning to Alabama to host Orlando City B for Armed Forces Night on June 6.
