NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 22, 2020) – Nashville Soccer Club announced today in conjunction with Major League Soccer the remaining 2020 schedule of regular season play which will see fans return to Nissan Stadium in a gradually increased capacity allowance beginning in October. The remaining calendar will wrap up with Decision Day on Nov. 8 and the last make-up match between Nashville and FC Dallas will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Up to 10% of Nashville SC First String MLS Founding Members will be the first ones to be allowed at Nissan Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 6 for a match against Minnesota United FC. Nashville SC’s lone outing in Music City in front of fans dates back to Feb. 29 when the club hosted a state record-breaking crowd for a soccer match of 59,069 in its inaugural MLS match.

The three additional home matches in October could allow up to 15 percent, which is the maximum capacity the facility can accommodate under current CDC guidelines during that time. Key components of the Safe Stadium Plan include:

  • Socially-distant seating pods accommodating parties of one to a maximum of six people
  • Mobile ticketing and parking, to eliminate physical contact while scanning passes
  • Mandatory face coverings at all times, except when actively eating or drinking
  • Over 300 hand sanitizing stations throughout the stadium
  • Individually-wrapped food items at concession stands
  • Elimination of all smoking and vaping areas in the facility
  • Health screenings and personal protective equipment for all Nissan Stadium employees
  • A comprehensive cleaning plan during events for bathrooms and near concession areas

Fans will be asked to arrive early and head straight to the gates after they arrive. After consulting with local and national health experts, there will be no tailgating or pre-game activities allowed outside of the stadium. Nissan Stadium will have dedicated security crews throughout to enforce all Safe Stadium policies.

In addition to its home matches, Nashville SC will take on the road in five of the nine matches newly announced. Since returning to play on Aug. 12, Nashville SC has earned a 2W-3L-3D record and four shutouts. The Boys in Gold find themselves in a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, sitting ninth in the table with a match in hand.

Of the newest slate of teams, the Boys in Gold are set to play, six of Nashville’s opponents currently qualify for postseason competition in their respective conferences. Only Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire FC are currently under the red line.

MLS previously confirmed qualification details and the competition format for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs, which will consist of single-elimination matches hosted by the higher-seeded team and follow a straight bracket format through MLS Cup on Dec.12.

In an expansion of the postseason for 2020, 18 clubs will compete in the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs. The top six seeds from the 14-team Eastern Conference will qualify directly to Round 1. Eastern Conference seeds 7-10 will each compete in a play-in match (No. 7 vs. No. 10, and No. 8 vs. No. 9) to determine the two additional Eastern Conference teams that will qualify for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs Round 1. The lower-seeded advancing team will face the Eastern Conference No. 1 seed in Round 1, while the higher-seeded advancing team will face the Eastern Conference No. 2 seed.

Additionally, eight teams from the 12-team Western Conference will qualify directly to Round 1.

The Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs schedule and broadcast details will be announced at a later date.
