NASHVILLE – Nashville SC could be just one win away from making the playoffs in its inaugural season in the United Soccer League (USL). On Tuesday night at First Tennessee Park, that dream could become reality as Nashville SC takes on Toronto FC II with a postseason berth on the line.
It is a simple formula for Nashville SC to clinch a playoff spot on Tuesday night:
- A Nashville SC win. Despite a couple of recent victories, Toronto FC II has the fewest points of any other USL team. They have won just four games all season, and tied another four. That means Toronto has lost 24 of 32 games. Nashville will get to play them in First Tennessee Park where it has had its most success this season with an 8-3-1 record.
- A North Carolina FC loss or draw. North Carolina will travel to Louisville City FC on Tuesday night. LCFC is on a five-game unbeaten run and will be trying to secure the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference with a win. North Carolina will have its work cut out on Tuesday night to pull out a victory.
- A New York Red Bulls II loss or draw. The “Baby Bulls” will also be in action on Tuesday night as they travel to Penn FC. Penn has already been eliminated from playoff contention, but will be looking to salvage a couple of results at the end of its season. Penn has struggled recently, going 0-4-1 in its last five games.
In short, Nashville needs three points and either North Carolina or New York to drop points. New York’s game begins at 5:30 p.m. and North Carolina starts at 6 p.m. while the game at First Tennessee Park doesn’t start until 7:30 p.m. All SC fans will know by halftime if a win officially locks in a spot.
