NASHVILLE (Dec. 12, 2017) – Nashville SC has acquired Lebo Moloto of Swope Park Rangers, one of the premier attacking midfielders in the United Soccer League (USL), to become the centerpiece of the club’s offense in its inaugural season, pending USL and federation approval.
Hailing from Polokwane, South Africa, Moloto has established himself as one of the premier midfielders in the USL. Moloto notched seven goals and four assists last season for USL Finalist Swope Park in 33 appearances. From his position, Moloto created 52 chances for his side and completed more than 84% of his passes.
“Lebo is a dynamic combination of creative ability & team-first mentality,” said Nashville SC head coach Gary Smith. “He has a graceful appreciation of the ball when in possession and is capable of making and scoring goals on his own or linking with others. On top of that, his genuine attitude makes him a terrific team player with a totally unselfish approach.”
On the international level, Moloto played for South Africa’s U-17 team in 2007 and 2008, participating in the 2007 African U-17 Championship. Moloto was a two-time NAIA National Champion at Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in 2009 and 2011, taking the NAIA National Championship MVP honor in 2011.
In the trade for Moloto, Nashville SC will send back future considerations to Swope Park in the first major transaction in franchise history.
“From day one we have been looking for ways to create a competitive advantage in building out our roster,” said Nashville SC technical director Mike Jacobs. “Adding a player of the caliber of Lebo was an opportunity we had to take advantage of, and we were fortunate to work out a deal that enabled us to do so.”
