Washington's goal provides difference

NASHVILLE – An early Taylor Washington goal for Nashville Soccer Club was buoyed by stellar defense from the Boys in Gold as Nashville leads rival Louisville City 1-0 at halftime at First Tennessee Park.

Washington’s goal in the 6’ minute, his first of the year, was started down the right flank by Ropapa Mensah. Mensah beat his man towards the end line and served a ball across the face of goal that made it through to Justin Davis on the far side. Davis immediately sent the ball short to Washington who volleyed into the top of the net to give Nashville the lead.

From there, Nashville was forced to defend for the bulk of the first half. The NSC backline of Justin Davis, Forrest Lasso, Jimmy Ockford and Darnell King held Louisville to just four shots, and one on target, despite the visitors owning 68.5% of possession.

Louisville’s best chance of the half came just before the halftime whistle. LouCity forward Brian Ownby collected a ball inside the box and with an on-rushing Matt Pickens, fired past him towards the net. Waiting on the goalline was Lasso who cleared the ball to prevent the equalizer.

Fans can tune in to the rest of the half locally in Nashville on MyTV30 or nationally on ESPN+.
