A look back at Nashville SC's biggest Team of the Week moments of 2019

NASHVILLE –USL Championship Team of the Week recognitions aren’t easy to come by. With just eleven spots available and around 500 players eligible each week, those who wish to land a spot must put on an impressive performance to prove that they outrank the rest. Nashville SC has been a force in the Eastern Conference this year with nine different players earning Team of the Week honors in 11 out of 27 weeks to date. Defender Ken Tribbett has racked up three recognitions this season alone. 2019's total has already surpassed 2018's Team of the Week recognitions as Nashville had seven different players make the Team of the Week across nine weeks last year.

All eleven team of the week performances are clearly notable, but there’s a few that stand out as monumental moments that have been particularly influential in Nashville’s 2019 campaign.

Here are three of the year’s biggest Team of the Week performances:

Forward Daniel Ríos – Week 5

Ríos brought the heat to Ottawa in Nashville’s fourth match of the season. The road match was expected to be one of the team’s biggest challenges of the year. The 1,000-mile journey to Canada would be Nashville’s longest of the regular season, and the Ottawa Fury typically boasted a strong record at home. Ríos was up for the test, putting away two goals in a considerable 3-0 win over the Fury at TD Place for his third and fourth goals of the season. Additionally, he completed 16 of his 23 passes and won 10 of 17 duels in the stand-out performance. The victory in Canada was the fourth straight match in which Ríos found the back of the net, setting the forward up for an outstanding 17-goal campaign so far in 2019.

Goalkeeper Matt Pickens – Week 12

Pickens was named the USL Championship Player of the Week and earned a spot on the Team of the Week after two clean sheets in Week 12 against Birmingham Legion FC and Indy Eleven. It was Pickens’ first Player of the Week recognition in his USL Championship career and become the second Nashville SC player to ever win the award. In addition to the two clean sheets, Pickens made six saves, had one clearance, and punch and won his only duel. The back-to-back shutouts with Pickens in the net contributed to Nashville’s conference-high 11 clean sheets in 2019.

Forward Alan Winn – Week 21

Winn broke into the league’s Team of the Week after a dynamic performance in one of the biggest wins in club history. Nashville SC hosted Indy Eleven, who was five points ahead of NSC in the Eastern Conference standings, at the club’s future Major League Soccer home on July 27. Winn was coming off of a solid performance against Memphis 901 FC that earned him a spot on the Team of the Week bench the week prior. After a goal from Ríos in the first half, Winn brought the crowd of 13,000+ to its feet when he netted the team’s second and final goal of the night. Winn also had three key passes and completed 37 of his 40 passes that evening. Known for his speed and agility, the 23-year-old successfully completed six of his seven dribbles in the 2-0 win. Considering Nashville SC had never won at Nissan Stadium, Week 21’s victory was one for the books.
