TAMPA – A clutch goal and a stellar defensive performance for Nashville Soccer Club defender Kosuke Kimura earned him USL Championship Team of the Week honors for Week 14 of the 2019 season.
Kimura was a key force behind Nashville’s 4-1 road victory over Bethlehem Steel FC. He scored a big second-half goal to put the Boys in Gold up by two goals. A scramble in the box after a relentless Nashville attack put the ball at Kimura’s feet on the right side of the box, and he snaked a shot through traffic to the far post for the goal.
The goal was Kimura’s first in a Nashville SC jersey and his first professional goal since a U.S. Open Cup goal with Tulsa Roughnecks FC in June 2017.
In addition to his contributions on the score sheet, Kimura had a spectacular defensive performance as well. He won eight of his nine duels and made five recoveries against Steel FC’s high-octane counterattacking offense. Kimura’s defensive work helped keep seven of Bethlehem’s 12 shots off target.
Kimura and Nashville SC will look to extend their unbeaten run to six matches this coming Sunday on the road against Hartford Athletic. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Come out to Corner Pub Downtown for a Club and Country Doubleheader Watch Party for the USWNT’s World Cup match vs. Chile. Click here for more information.
