NASHVILLE (Sept. 14, 2017) – David Proctor has been named Nashville Soccer Club’s assistant coach as they prepare for their debut United Soccer League (USL) season, which kicks off March 2018 at First Tennessee Park.
Part of Gary Smith’s coaching staff that led the Colorado Rapids to the MLS Cup in 2010, Proctor joins Nashville SC from Columbus Crew, where he worked in the club’s academy as head coach for Columbus Crew youth teams.
“David brings a wealth of top-level coaching and playing experience to our staff, and I personally couldn’t be more excited to work closely with him again,” said Smith, Nashville SC’s head coach. “He believes in the club’s ideals about how we want to play the game, and with his background playing at top clubs in Europe and in the U.S., his knowledge of the game will be vital as we build this technical department for future success.”
Born in Sheffield, England, Proctor started his playing career in the Aston Villa youth academy. From Villa he moved to Hull City, to Middlesbrough and to Fredrikstad in Norway, before coming to the U.S. to play in the USL with the Richmond Kickers.
“I’m honored to be part of Nashville’s growing soccer culture,” Proctor said. “Coach Smith and I both share the ambition and passion not just of Nashville SC, but of this city. We can’t wait to get started and hope to replicate the success we’ve had in the past together.”
He joined the coaching ranks in 2003, working in the youth academies for Columbus Crew, for Colorado Rapids and for York City in England.
Proctor is joined in Nashville by his wife and three children.
